Education in Big Tree Country

Perthshire Big Tree Country (PBTC) is an inspiration for residents and visitors, both young and old.

An ever-changing living landscape, it is dominated by the largest living organisms on our planet – trees.  Alone, or as woodlands, they provide a tapestry of colour, texture, shape and form providing visual and sensual interest, making the scenery so memorable.

Thanks to the enthusiasm of adventurous local plant collectors David Douglas and Archibald Menzies, and the vision of the ‘Planting’ Dukes of Atholl, PBTC is one of the most stunning and varied landscapes in Europe.

The value of PBTC extends beyond the plant and animal life it supports or the income it brings from its timber and tourism – it is a valuable outdoor learning resource, providing a wealth of investigative topics for firsthand, contextual learning.

We are currently working on new schools material which will be made available later this year. If you wish to be notified when these are made available, please join our schools mailing list.
