Generally believed to be named after Queen Victoria who took tea here in 1866, the viewpoint actually commemorates Queen Isabella, wife of Robert the Bruce who ruled Scotland between 1306 and 1329.

The stunning view across Loch Tummel to Schiehallion (1081 metres / 3547 feet) is one of the most famous in Scotland and the site is adjacent to Allean Forest, another Big Tree Country site worthy of a visit.

The nearby visitor centre tells the fascinating story of people and forests in Highland Perthshire and the accompanying tea room gives you a chance to rest your legs and enjoy the view.

There are plans to extend the viewpoint and provide better access for the less able as part of the Heritage & Access Project.

Visit any time of year.

Location

6.5 miles/ 10.5 km west of Pitlochry, on the B8019 on the northern side of Loch Tummel with access west from the A9.

Public transport & other facilities

Take the bus from Pitlochry.

Good car parking with designated disabled parking to the northern end and provision for coaches.

Toilets including disabled toilets are provided on site as are refreshment facilities, visitor centre and shop.

The spikes on a hedgehog are angled just above their roots so that if they fall from a height they are not driven into their body.

The hedgehog is immune to the poison of adders – Britain’s only poisonous snake – and sees them as a source of food. It bites the adder to provoke it then rolls into a ball whilst the snake repeatedly attacks it until its venom is exhausted.
