Allean Forest

Enjoy magnificent views of Loch Tummel and the surrounding mountains from way marked walks through this working forest which sits slightly west of the Queen's View.

Due to recent storm damage the trails at Allean are currently closed to the public. The Forestry Commission are aiming to have these cleared of fallen trees and damage repaired as soon as possible. Please check their website for updates.

The trails pass a reconstructed 18th century farmhouse and the remains of an 8th century ring fort.

Two kilometres of path, and new bridges have been added as part of the Heritage & Access Project, further opening up the forest to visitors.

For those interested in birds look out for a variety of species such as siskin (Carduelis pinus), crossbill (Loxia curviostra) and goldcrest (Regulus regulus) can be seen in the mix of conifers on high ground and broadleaf trees near Loch Tummel.

Moderate-going trails from 1 mile/ 1.5 km to 2.5 miles/ 4 km.

Directions

7 miles/ 11 km west of Pitlochry, on the B8019 on the northern side of Loch Tummel with access west from the A9.

Facilities

Car parking provision and a new toilet at the site.

Additional facilities including disabled toilets, refreshments, visitor centre and shop are all available at Queen's View.

Visit any time of year.

Public Transport

Take the bus from Pitlochry to Queen's View and walk across the road.
